The Only Recipe for Mayonnaise You’ll Ever Need

When it comes to the perfect condiment, there is much debate as to what the best one is. However, with this perfect recipe for mayonnaise, you’ll easy finish this debate!

Whether you’re a fan of ketchup or you carry a little bottle of hot sauce with you in your purse, there is still one condiment that never seems to fail: mayonnaise. It’s perfect for putting on top of your favorite sandwiches or it can be used in your favorite dipping sauces!

Preparing mayonnaise is also pretty easy! It mainly involves the combination of a few (less than 10 ingredients) and allowing them to be whipped together into this amazing recipe for mayonnaise.

One of the great things about this particular recipe for mayonnaise is the fact that you do not need a food processor in order to prepare it! This makes it that much easier for you to whip this up home!

How to Make Your Own Mayonnaise

Your ingredients are as followed. They are super simple and I’m sure you have most, if not all in your kitchen cabinets!

  • 1 large egg yolk, at room temperature
  • 2 teaspoons lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • ¼ teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1 teaspoon cold water
  • ¾ cup neutral oil such as safflower or canola

One of the best things about this recipe for mayonnaise is the fact that the preparation is super easy! When it comes to combining the ingredients, the key lies in the speed that you whisk!

There is only one step needed to prep your mayonnaise and it takes only 5 minutes give or take!

  1. In a medium bowl, whisk together the egg yolk, lemon juice, mustard, salt and 1 teaspoon cold water until frothy. Whisking constantly, slowly dribble in the oil until mayonnaise is thick and oil is incorporated. When the mayonnaise emulsifies and starts to thicken, you can add the oil in a thin stream, instead of drop by drop

A tip from the chef: Whisk slowly as you drip the oil into the egg yolk, lemon juice and Dijon mustard mixture. Once it starts to emulsify, you can start adding the oil a bit faster.

This recipe is PERFECT for creating a small batch of mayonnaise. It yields about 1 cup. However, feel free to increase the recipe if you’d like to make a larger amount!
